What is the Nickel Plate Road?

The New York, Chicago, and St buy cardano. Louis Railroad Company was most commonly known as the Nickel Plate Road (NKP).
Starting as a single rail line in 1881, the NKP eventually expanded into a vast rail network connecting much of the Midwest.
Today, portions of the original NKP route are still in use, while other portions have been removed or are at risk of destruction.

OUR CAUSE

Railroad history is disappearing. We are working to save it.

First Let's

Learn
The core of our focus starts with research into the rich and storied history of the Nickel Plate Road. An increasing number of communities, originally established along the Nickel Plate corridor, are forgetting and destroying their railroad history.

Now let's

Share
In order to reinvigorate the historic significance of our railroad communities, we must educate residents and political leaders on the benefits of re-engaging and restoring the tangible railroad history that remains in our cities and towns.

IT'S UP TO US

Preserve
The culmination of our efforts is active organization and implementation of preservation plans to ensure the survival of our Nickel Plate railroad heritage for the enjoyment and education of future generations.

Please help to preserve irreplaceable history!
